Governor General of Canada receives own tulip
Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean Daniel Lafond will welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and her husband, Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven, at Rideau Hall, on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Her Royal Highness and Professor van Vollenhoven will be visiting Canada from May 10 to 16.
On the occasion of her visit, Her Royal Highness will present the new "Michaëlle Jean" tulip to the Governor General in the presence of His Excellency Wim Geerts, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Canada, dignitaries and members of the Dutch diaspora in Ottawa. The tulip is a gift from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Canada.
About the Michaëlle Jean Tulip
This distinctive tulip with deep maroon petals is a new cultivar of the "Triumph" class. It will be officially registered under the name Michaëlle Jean with the Royal General Bulb Grower's Association. OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 10, 2010)
